Worm butt - WARNING: gross post!

What makes a puppy's mother feel like a failure? Watching a little bitty worm crawl out of the puppy's pooper.
Yes, Peekaboo, is seems, has tapeworms.
We're going to vet the this afternoon to be sure, but when I made the appointment the tech said puppies can get tapeworms from eating fleas. She said it matter-of-factly enough to make me think it's fairly common. But still!
Peekaboo doesn't have fleas! I found one flea on her once. I squashed it and figured she'd brought it in from outside. I'd know if she was infested - she's WHITE. I could see the little thing running around on her. She's on heartworm pills and flea drops. HOW did she find enough fleas to eat to get worms??? Perhaps it's the eating of the poo.

Oh, and as to why I was watching my puppy's pooper in the first place: We were laying on the couch last night watching TV. Rascal was cuddled up to my chin and P boo was beside me with the aforementioned pooper pointing toward me. I noticed something there and looked around for a paper towel to wipe it off (we have rolls all around the house because we're still potty-training). Then the thing MOVED. I am traumatized.

Oh so sad. Don't you wish these little girls wouldn't eat poo? It can't taste good, so what is it about it?! Yuck! I hope you guys get rid of the worms soon. I would be traumatized, too.

That's not good. Have you tried the poop sprinkling stuff with her yet? Or, maybe just start using little baggies all the time, until she forgets about how good it tastes and hopefully she will grow out of it.

My dog is just blowing bloody boogies out of his nose...the boogies haven't moved yet...YET, so at least that's a bonus.

Eeep!!

Bless your heart for having to see that thing!!

Bless Peekaboos heart for having to deal with that thing in her.

I hope it hasn't been upsetting her belly too much, I wonder what it's like for them.

Don't feel like a failure, it's out of your control. They say when pups are pups they can easily catch many illnesses because their immune systems just aren't top notch yet. This was out of your control and now you've caught and you're having her looked after by a doctor, so you're a great mom!!!!!!!!!
