Umm, this is gross

Ok, for those of us new to coastal living, could some of you veterans explain exactly how to prevent mold from growing on all kinds of things around the house? I pull out some shoes from under the bed and I find this.
Got grossed out and checked some other shoes handing on the door, found this.

Drop my brush behind the vanity and notice this.

So what gives? I clean the house. I clean the house WAY TOO MUCH! Why is mold growing? Our landlord told us to put out rock salt in plastic dishes to absorb the moisture in the air, and we did, but there's still mold.
I can't find anything online about household mold that isn't talking about major mold problems that require professional cleaning.
I threw out five pairs of shoes! They were old and probably wouldn't have worn them again, but that's beside the point. This stuff is hurting my shoes! It must be stopped!
Anyone have any ideas?

Kara, I've never seen anything like that. If you have a leak in the walls I could see that happening. Have you seen something in Wal-Mart on the cleaning aisle that is like moisture rid (I can't remember the name). I know you know to be careful about certain kinds of mold will make you sick. Do you see it growing on the ceiling or any wet spots anywhere on the walls or ceiling? Yuck.

Hey Kara, I hardly ever meet any Church of Christ members. I grew up in the Church of Christ and even attended Alabama Christian for a couple of years. My parents just moved to south Alabama and joined a new church there. My mom was in the hospital in Mobile a week ago and my mom was talking about the church and the nurse said her dad is a Church of Christ minister and that she had attended that church, too. She graduated from Harding a couple of years ago.

Mold means wet/dampness. It is unhealthy and you should try to find the source. You can get really sick from it! Do you live in apt. bldg? If so, check with other tenants. My mom had mold in her townhouse once and turns out the owners had boarded up the basement and there was standing water down there, hence the mold! Be careful!

I can only assume that by now, the mold has completely taken over and you are unable to use the computer...j/k! Hope you are doing well!
