Not a "real" house

I haven't participated in the bloggy parade of home because our house doesn't really reflect our tastes. It was painted all different colors by the landlord: The kitchen and dining room are orange, living room is purple, bathroom is blue, office is blue, guest bedroom is two colors of purple and our bedroom is a limey green. We've kept it that way - mostly because we hate painting.
With Alan in med school we're still somewhat in the college lifestyle: Cash-strapped and moving often! In fact, this is the first summer in six years that I won't be moving:
In 2000 I moved to Abilene into a freshman dorm
2001 moved to sophomore dorm
2002 moved to on-campus apartment
2003 moved to off-campus duplex
2004 got married, moved into a house with Alan
2005 moved to Galveston for Alan's med school
and in 2007 we'll likely move to Austin for Alan's 3rd and 4th years of school.
In 2009 we'll move to wherever he gets into a residency.
I love looking at your homes though - it gets me excited to have a "real" home!

In other news, we had a brief visitor the other day: Maxim the German Shepherd.

This is Maxim beside our back door, which is actually ugly green:

I came across Maxim in the street on my way to the gym. Although I was pretty certain he was the dog that is usually behind the fence of the corner house, I wasn't sure enough to put him in that backyard.
So I walked him three houses down the street to our house, called the number on his tag, left a message and played fetch. We totally ruined one of the pugs' mini tennis balls. After a few hours the people down the street called - Maxim was indeed their dog. Apparently he'd found his way out the yard and couldn't get back in.
Alan gave me a lecture about messing with a dog who could have hurt me if he wanted to, which is a legit concern. But I think I did ok. I didn't approach him, I just said "hi puppy," and he came to me and sat. He knew he needed a human to let him back in his backyard.

P.S. - Tell Alan that if you can handle Kaiya you can handle any dog!! =)

If a German Shepherd (or any guard-type dog) approaches you and is not growling, I think you are ok. Its those little ones like those attack pugs and frenchies that you have to look out for.
