Good friends

Initially when Alan asked "Who did you tell that we're taking Gizmo to this vet," I thought someone had shoe polished the car. We aren't too far removed from those years when you come out of the mall to find "Got you" scrawled hastily on your windows. But we don't live near any of the friends who might still owe us some minor vandalization, so I was confused.
"Umm, nobody.....why?"
Because, Alan said, someone had called Gizmo's oncologist and made an anonymous contribution to his cancer treatment. We have a credit on our account. Someone is pretty sneaky, because I don't know how they found who Gizmo's specialist is.
Alan said that when he stepped to the counter to pay for the visit, the receptionist smiled and said, "You have some wonderful friends."
Well, I already knew that.
I have friends who spent the night with me before my wedding, despite the tight quarters and barks from Gizmo, who was freaked out by the extra people in the room.
I have friends who reassure me that I am not the only neurotic neat freak who loves office supplies and hates crumbs.
I have friends who dutifully read my blog even though they aren't obsessed with pugs.
I have friends who let me bring my husband and the dogs when I visit, whether it's 3 a.m. and we had to evacuate for a hurricane or we're just in town for the weekend and need somewhere to crash.
I have friends who conspire with my husband to mercilessly make fun of me for several of my idiosyncrasies, but it's ok because she provides plenty of material for my use in making fun of her.
And I have friends who have served as examples of leadership, compassion, generosity and humility.
