Alan has been bugging me for years to shave Kritter, and I have refused for very good reasons.First, pugs aren't froo froo dogs. They don't get fluffled and blow dried and poofed.
Second, Alan just wanted to laugh at how dumb Kritter would look bald.
Third, although someday someone will trust Alan with a scalpel, I was wary of trusting him with clippers. (And I shouldn't have - as you will see).
But some other puggers have tried out a trimmed coat, and they say it reduced shedding.
So, I gave in.
We visited Emily and Gracie last weekend and went to Dirty Dogz, where you pay and do all the work yourself.
First the bath.
More of a shower actually.
Gracie got clean too.
We still aren't sure what all she's made of. Emily thinks German shepherd plus...something else. Whatever she is, she's a sweetheart.
At home I don't dry the pugs, I just tell them to run amok, and that pretty much does it. I tried the hairdryer a couple times, but Gizmo was not a fan, and it took so long to pull him out from behind the toilet that I gave up on the blow dry. Kritter didn't appreciate it at Dirty Dogz either. Now for the cut.
I was shocked at how calm he was about it - I guess he liked the attention.
We used a No. 3 guard. Alan REALLY wanted to shave him bald, but I've seen a nearly-bald pug, and that was so not happening.
He was such a good boy! And he's softer. Taking off that top coat and all the tough guard hairs makes him feel just like a puppy. Gizmo doesn't have two coats, so he always feels like that.Video Hosting - Upload Video - Video Sharing
He looked perfect! We'd just missed one spot on his left flank. So Alan got the clippers back out and ... forgot to put the guard on.
There it is - the disfiguring bald spot. Doesn't show up very well here, but trust me, it's noticeable. Emily tried to fix it by cutting the hair around it so it would blend in, but all she really did was make it look like a short patch with zebra stripes.
He was pooped, but clean, cut and stylin' in his Puppia.

I think the bald spot adds character! And Gracie looks like she has some Greyhound in her as well as German Shepherd.
Looks like you all had fun!
Alan...step away from the clippers! The green Puppia is nice too!
He was so good. It looked like he loved it. Kritter also looks good with Zebra stripes...by the way, where's my tip?
Gracie is maybe part pitbull too bc of the shape of her head and jaws and some pitbulls have the brindle coloring too.
I'm so jealous!!! That looks like so much fun!! Next time I'll bring Kaiya and Missy!!
That's a sweet picture of him on top of Alan. We have one of those doggy bath places here and I've taken mine there. They enjoy it. I've put the dryer on them there. But I like taking them to the place.
LOL No Kidding! I ought to try that on Willow she is so itchy and she is loosing all her fur...maybe if I shave her her medicated shampoo for her bad skin will work better?
