Kisses make it all better

I had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day at work today. But, I woke up to puppy and pug kisses and I'll go to sleep to puppy and pug kisses, so things kinda even out.
Here's some pics of my babies:

Those are some sweet pups! Kritter is such a good boy in the car. I know the Woman is very jealous of that, because I am a little terror machine when we take a ride.

I have no idea who you are, but have this overwhelming feeling that I do. I came across your blog by doing some random search, and since I've been an avid reader.

I want to say that I am terribly sorry about your loss. I cannot imagine how difficult it all must have been. But, I rejoice with you in the addition to your happy little family. Though having said this, I know your new little guy will never replace your Gizmo.

You have also mentioned that you guys are currently in Galveston in medical school with the potential for moving to Austin next year. My husband and I attend the Austin pug club when we can.

I also noticed (while searching the Austin Pug Club Meetup website) you were emailing with a women about setting up a fund with a Houston vet to help a sick pug. I mention this to say seemingly I keep running into you - via the internet.

Additionally, I feel we share commonalities. You see, my husband is also a medical student. He is a fourth year so he will be graduating in May and right now we are experiencing the interview process. We have a son (our Pug) who's name is Baxter. He is such a sweetie and loves to play and snuggle.

I have felt compelled to write on many occasions but am a little skeptical of putting things out on the www. So anyway, I write to say that I enjoy reading about your life's adventures.

Thanks and take care

Thanks you everybody! And thank you, Baxter's momma, for the sweet note! I feel for you with the interview stuff. I went with Alan to all of his med school interviews and was SO glad when it was over. Did your husband go to Austin for his 3rd & 4th years from another UT school? That's what we're thinking we'd like to do. If you have any words of wisdom about going vs. not going, I'd love to hear them!

Sometimes those very bad days at work help us appreciate the good days! Doesn't make them any easier, though. But knowing those two puppies are waiting for you with kisses is the best medicine!

I am not sure how else to respond to you other than using the same post date, so here it goes...

I too went with my husband on all his med school interviews, but residency interviews seem to be a little different. It is so expensive!! You have to pay travel, hotel and food; and there is NO additional loan money (at least not through his school).

He attends Texas A&M, so we were in College Station for 2 years and now we are in Temple at Scott and White Hospital for the last 2 years. We hope to get residency here (eliminate a move, but who knows.

As for you guys, I've heard great things about UT Galveston, but I also have heard the same about Austin. We do have a friend who did all four years at Galveston and he said the only thing for him was driving from Galveston to downtown Houston for rotations - daily.

Didn't you say in one of your past posts that Alan's brother is in the Austin area?! That alone could make the experience all the more.

My husband did his undergrad at UT and absolutely loved it, the area and the school. He also did volunteer work at both Austin hospitals.

I suppose you also have to decide if you would rather be in a large area/environment or stay in a smaller one. That is one of things we are having to consider right now with his interviews and the program/hospital. Oh yeah, and cost of living. That is another big factor to consider. I know Galveston can be pricie (I grew up near there and still go back for visits, like Dickens and stuff), but Austin can also be quit expensive!

I am sure you both have been weighing the pros and cons of your decision and will make the right choice.

Take care and best wishes with the decision and your little ones!
You will have to write if you guys make it to an Austin meetup and maybe we could actually meet.

In closing, I am sure you guys will make the right choice for your future, no worries!

Baxter's momma,
You can e-mail me any time at flatnosedpup "at" gmail "dot" com.
We'd both really like to be in a larger city, and yes, my brother in law (and his new Frenchie) live there. He's in chef school - yet another good reason to move there - good cooking!!!
Thank you for all the info. Alan really liked A&M med school, and has several friends there. I guess ya'll might know them because it's not a very big class. Drop me an e-mail if you get a chance!
Have a great day!
