My Moe

This is the hazard of giving your heart to a furry friend; they can't stay as long as you'd like. Last night Gizmo began breathing very heavily, and although he didn't look to be in pain he wasn't comfortable or himself. We have a wonderful vet who is also a member of our church. He gave us his cell number at the beginning of this illness, and we called him. We though we might need something else to give Moe to make him rest easier, but we also knew it might be the end. Dr. Knupple met us at the clinic and checked out Gizmo. His poor little heart was going crazy, but he wasn't whining or complaining. The doc said the only way to keep him comfortable was to completely sedate him, and he advised us to go ahead and give him to God. He gave Moe a sedative and left to let us hold him for as long as we wanted. I sat cross-legged on the floor and held him his favorite way. He feel asleep in my arms, snoring. He was completely comfortable, and we were all with him. We hugged and kissed him and told him how much we loved him, but he already knew. I still held him as the vet game him a little shot in his leg, and after a little while he stopped snoring. I cleaned his wrinkles and kissed and cuddled him. Then we handed him to the vet and went home. We're going to keep his ashes, harness, favorite toys and bones in our room to be close to us, because that's all he ever wanted: to be right there beside me. I won't hear the pitter-patter of little Moe feet anymore, but he'll always be right beside me.

I couldn't stop crying yesterday when I got your text, and now again this morning as I read your account of how things happened.

Gizmo is being cared for by God now. Give Critter an extra hug from us, cause I'm sure he's sad too.

Simba and Benny send their love.

We are all very shocked over at DennyandCharlie towers. We are so sorry for your loss of Gizmo. These little furry friends leave such a space in our hearts when they leave us - but try there hardest to comfort us in our dreams. I know from losing Samson that he has visited me in my sleep to let me know he is ok. Gizmo will do the same. Hugs from all of us here. Richard, Robbi, Denny, Charlie and Alfie.

I'm sure Gizmo is very happy and enjoying his time over the rainbow and would love to see you all remember the beautiful times he spent in your family and of course will remain in your hearts!
You all made a wonderful home for Gizmo and allowed him to live his life to the fullest as long as he could!

We're very sorry to hear of your loss, it's always hard to say goodbye to a good friend. Try to remember why you loved instead thinking of his being gone.

Kara and Alan,
I know your hearts must be broken. It is so hard to lose a pug because they have such presence in our lives. I am so sorry you lost your boy, but so grateful that he had you there with him to hold him.

I cried when reading your post. Such a beautiful tribute to Gizmo's last moments with you. And it made me think of Tyler and the way his toenails click on the floor when he is walking along beside me or his dad, as he always does. I am going to give him extra cuddles tonight, and make sure he knows how much he is loved. Just like Gizmo knew.

Oh Kara;

I just read of Gizmo's passing this morning. I am so sorry! You were strong and so did the right thing as hard as it was for you and Alan. You were so lucky to have each other for the time God allowed. Know I now why that star was shining bright in the sky last night. One beautiful angel was added to the bridge.

Pug Hugs ..... Paula
